On November 7, 2024, IrishCentral honored Darren T. Moore as Ecosystem Engagement Champion of the Year at its inaugural Legal Elite Awards, held at the American Irish Historical Society on Fifth Avenue.
Chaired by Liam Lynch, Chair of IrishCentral, the inaugural Legal Elite Awards brought the Irish-American legal community together at the historic American Irish Historical Society on Fifth Avenue to celebrate legal professionals for their dedication to justice, community and Irish heritage.
Lynch opened the evening by honoring the keynote speaker, former U.S. Congressman Bruce Morrison, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on immigration reform and Irish-American advocacy. Morrison spoke about the need for unity and resilience across the diaspora. His name carries special weight in Irish America: the "Morrison visa" program, created by the Immigration Act of 1990 and active from 1992 to 1995, sent more than 40 percent of its visas to applicants from Ireland and Northern Ireland and allowed tens of thousands of Irish immigrants to build their lives legally in the United States.
The 2024 honorees were J.P. Duffy IV of Reed Smith LLP (Lawyer of the Year), Kevin Kilduff (International Lawyer of the Year), Elliot Beard of Simmons & Simmons (Corporate Counsel Leadership Champion of the Year), John Stahl of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center (Community Champion of the Year), Jennifer Frankola, immediate past president of the Brehon Law Society of New York (Outstanding Service Champion of the Year), and Darren T. Moore, then President of the Irish American Bar Association of New York (Ecosystem Engagement Champion of the Year).
Lynch closed the night by thanking the sponsors and honorees and encouraging everyone to get involved in IrishCentral's community efforts. It was an evening that marked the end of one year and set the tone for the next.
"As President of the Irish American Bar Association of New York, receiving the Ecosystem Engagement Champion of the Year award is very humbling and a proud moment for me, especially given the goals I set for myself when I became president," said Darren. "It's also a massive honor to receive this award alongside U.S. Congressman Bruce Morrison. Members of my own family, and people I know in the Irish community, were able to gain legal status here because of the Morrison visa. I don't take this award lightly, and I hope I can help the Irish and Irish-American legal community, and the community at large, going forward."
